Chang – God of Fire, Thunder, Lightning, and War

Chang (Shang or Xango) is often considered the King of Santeria and the Orisha of drumming, fire, thunder/lightning, war, virility, and leadership. He was once a king on earth as the fourth King of Oy in Yoruba land, and was elevated to the status of Orisha due to miracles performed after his death. Chang is represented as an athletic man wearing a crown and wielding a double headed axe, which represents justice and thunder. Beads of red and white, known as elekes, are often worn to represent his two favorite colors. The children of Chang are high energy, bold, sexual, and love to be the center of attention. He favors offerings of cedar tools, apples, rum, bananas, and red wine.
